Twenty-two year old Johanna Cochrin has spent the past six years in self-imposed silence. After witnessing her brother’s murder, she vowed to take his secret to the grave – even if that meant living the rest of her life as a prisoner in a remote government compound.

But when she is kidnapped from that compound, Johanna finds her silence difficult to maintain. With the ruthless dictator of a fragile government plotting to sacrifice her to a time-altering Device, she is forced to trust people she has never met, share secrets she never meant to share, and come to terms with her own mortality – all while trying to save the world.

Sometimes I talk too much. Sometimes I laugh too loud. Motherhood has forced me to learn to eat fast. Writing books has turned me into a nail-biter. And being married to the same man for fifteen years and counting has been the best and biggest adventure.

I’m a farmer’s daughter, and like all good Kansas-bred girls, I have a thing for ruby red heels (though I rarely wear them). As a kid, I carried a book with me everywhere I went; as a (mostly) grown-up, I still do.

The smell of rain makes me smile, tiramisu makes me giddy, and belly-laughter – the kind that leaves you sore the next day – is my most favorite thing. Ever.

I’m glad you popped by, and I hope you visit me often.

The Darkening is available for your Kindle, Nook, and iDevice.

“My fingers curled into that moss covering the floor of Orchos’ Wood, I tumbled through the curved tree-branch of the door that marks the entry to this other world, and I saw the golden glow of the Shrilugh trees…The Darkening is a great escape of fantasy, adventure, and above all LOVE.”

As Aydan Fulbert settles into her new life in a new world, she realizes a few things: She’s healing from losing her best friend, her first love. She’s coming to terms with her new home.

And she’s lonely.

Rein Torvald’s return from his long absence helps alleviate her loneliness, but a darkness comes with him. Unsettling news about her father and the Sovereign has the potential to make her a fugitive all over again – from his world and hers.

Will Aydan allow her heart to be taken places she’s never been brave enough to go? Or will the threat of danger – of the Sovereign’s rage, and her father’s vengeful grudge, send her running?
